On Dec. 31 Martin Parnell’s eighth Annual Run/Walk took place at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. In total 68 individuals participated in the event. Even though it ended up being one of the coldest days of the year, it didn’t stop a number of hardy souls tackling the two km loop, some completing distances up to a full marathon.
One runner, Hiro, from Edmonton completed an impressive 50 km. This year’s fundraiser was in support of the NGO, Free to Run. Its current project entails installing an ice rink for girls in Bamyan, Afghanistan. The target for the fund raiser was $5,000 and to date $7,500 has been raised. I would like to thank all Cochrane and area residents for their support and in particular local businesses and groups including Ink’d Graphics, The Cochrane Times, The Cochrane Eagle, Patsy’s Place, Cochrane Red Rock Runners, Footstock, Cochrane Rotary, The Town of Cochrane, Cochrane Public Library and Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. Again, Cochrane shows that it cares and I look forward to seeing you all again on Dec. 31, 2018 at the Ninth Annual Run / Walk and hopefully a warmer day.
