Mayor applauds town’s engagement on transit

The transit engagement will now move from cafes to online and phone surveys

The second of two Transit Cafes is being touted by Cochrane mayor, Truper McBride, for its ‘neutral approach’ to what has been a dividing issue in the community.

“We know that transit is a possibility for Cochrane,” he said, “but this process allows us to move forward without assuming that we know what people want or need.

Manager leaves Nakoda Food Bank after three years

After nearly three years of service, Nakoda Food Bank manager, Kimberly St. Martin (formerly Jimmy) has stepped down from the First Nations food bank, which provides some 65 hampers a day to the Stoney Nation’s three respective bands — Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley.

Glenbow Elementary getting new principal from Airdrie

Glenbow Elementary School will be welcoming new principal, Brendan Trinca, who begins his tenure on Aug. 28 for the 2012-13 school year.

Current principal, Deb Rougeau-Bell has held her position at the school for almost 10 years and will be retiring at the end of this school year.

Town maps out plan to engage public on future of transit

The public engagement on transit will continue through spring and summer

Moving forward with council’s directions to seek feedback from residents regarding a transit system, the town has outlined their strategy to engage the public on the divisive issue.

Having held their first Transit Cafe on April 21 at Cochrane High School, a second such event will take place on May 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the RancheHouse.

Trade with EU vital for Canadian economy, says Richards

Wild Rose MP Blake Richards is touting the federal government’s plan to enhance Canada’s trade agreement with Europe.

“An ambitious trade agreement with the EU (European Union) would bring great benefits to the Canadian economy,” Richards wrote in his weekly report, “including a $12 billion increase to our GDP (gross domestic product), which would be the equivalent of a $1,000 increase in the average Canadian family’s income.”
