Cochrane veteran honoured

Gerald Morrison

Gerald Morrison, a Cochrane veteran of the Canadian Forces, received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation during a ceremony in Calgary on Jan. 18.

The acclamation, which was awarded to 13 people from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, is bestowed upon those who have provided admirable service to the veteran community, something Morrison has been extremely active in after serving his country for 36 years.

Wish ride inspires book

When Martha Birkett, local horsewoman, healing practitioner and owner/operator of Cochrane’s premier yoga studio, the Amaryllis Centre, climbed atop her horse to ride from Ottawa to Cochrane for the Children’s Wish Foundation in 2008, she never imagined that she would be holding up a book four years later that contained a chapter in honour of her ride — ‘Giddy Up For Wishes’.

Red tape a negative, says Richards

When it comes to regulation, Wild Rose MP Blake Richards feels there has to be a fine balance of enough, yet not too much.

“Government red tape is a bugbear of mine,” Richards said in his weekly release. “I think there’s good evidence that over-regulation became the default position of the federal bureaucracy during the Liberal years and I am proud to be a member of a Conservative Government that is taking action, through initiatives such as our Red Tape Reduction Commission.”

Just ask the Cochrane Generals, who have four top-10 players on the Heritage Junior Hockey League scoring-leaders list – Jason Labelle, Jonny Pictin, Kris Keller and Tyson Soloski. It’s no mystery the Generals have been at, or near, the top of league standings all season.

Which all could’ve been avoided I’m sure but the fat hit the fire and people are upset.

Many opinions exist on subject of feeding horses

Happy Trails

Horses do not need watches to tell them what time it is, particularly feeding time.

My three handsome geldings like to inform me when I’m tardy with their breakfast. As soon as the horses see movement in the kitchen then they line up along the corral fence with expectant looks on their long faces.
