Play and Sing sessions return to Bragg Creek

Back by popular demand, Bragg Creek’s guitar-wielding jam maniac, Rick Godderis will be bringing back his ‘Play and Sing’ jam sessions for round number four.

“It’s a group thing facilitated by myself,” said Godderis, who hosts the classes in his music room on his acreage, located four kilometres west of Bragg Creek.

Appeals filed from Chiniki election; decision ‘needs to happen soon’

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Michael Frank from the University of Lethbridge has passed all appeal requests on to Stoney Tribal Administration from the recent Chiniki election.

The appeals deadline for the Chiniki election, was Dec. 22. The election was held in Morley on Dec. 8.

Cobras’ injuries costly

With key starters Sydney Fairfield and Kristen McNab out to injury, the Cochrane high school Cobras senior varsity girls basketball team was in tough against the Bert Church High School Chargers on Dec. 21.

The Chargers took advantage of the situation, downing the Cobras 54-45 in Rocky View Sports Association play.

Weather a threat to horse shelters that aren’t secured

We are now in the season of wind and snow – are you ready? Our equine friends can certainly tolerate most of what Mother Nature can throw at us but sometimes they need a little help.

As long as horses have access to shelter from the wind and shelter from moisture, they can “weather the weather” just fine. When we confine them into pastures or corrals, we take away their ability to move into forests for protection so we must provide that protection.

Bragg Creek skier taking to Big Mountain events

Wintergreen Ski Hill was one of the many outdoor features that attracted like-minded families to Bragg Creek. The Starnino family was no different. Parents Paul and Mary Starnino moved the family from Redwood Meadows to the base of the golf course/ski hill just as Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) unceremoniously closed the ski hill in 2003. Wintergreen’s snow making machines now grace other hills in the RCR portfolio, while the chairs on the old lift still hang, rusting and sad.

Learn to Run group all graduate with honours

On Oct. 1, the first class of the ‘Live Ideal Learn to Run 5 km’ program left the Creating Balance office in Cochrane and walked four minutes then ran one. This was the start of a 12-week program to learn to run five kilometres.

In the first session Deb, Kaitlyn, Shannon, Renee and Amanda repeated the walk four minutes / run one minute six times for a total of 30 minutes.
