Tragic skiing accident takes the life of Rocky View County councillor

A skiing accident that occurred at Nakiska Mountain Resort on Dec. 26 has tragically claimed the life of Rocky View County (RVC) councillor Rick Butler.

Visiting the mountain with his family on Boxing Day, the Division 1 councillor and deputy reeve collided into a tree sustaining life-threatening injuries.

MP addresses Lunch & Learn to conclude year

Wild Rose MP Blake Richards visited Frank Wills Memorial Hall on Dec. 21 to address a crowd of local business people about what has been going on in Ottawa since the last federal election.

The Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce organized the Lunch and Learn event, which the volunteer organization does on a regular basis and seeks to bring in prominent personalities from the community and surrounding area.

No fireworks display planned for Cochrane New Year’s Eve

One of the most visually spectacular traditions on New Year’s Eve is a colourful display of fireworks.

According to Section 8 in the Town of Cochrane Emergency Services Bylaw, however, fireworks are not permitted in the Town of Cochrane without an issued permit, which can only be granted to a licensed technician.

Irvin’s chance to shine under Mac’s bright lights

The Mac’s AAA Midget world invitational hockey tournament.

It’s only the biggest Midget AAA holiday hockey showcase in this area code.

So when Cochrane’s Chandler Irvin stepped on to the ice at Calgary’s Max Bell Arena on Boxing Day, the UFA Bisons defenceman was being watched by hockey scouts working for U.S. colleges, major junior and junior A clubs.
