The mythical Bigfoot may be living in the wilderness southwest of Cochrane and the hosts of Finding Bigfoot hope to find evidence to support this.

“You’re seeing a perfectly normal animal that lives here in North America,” said host Cliff Barackman at a town hall meeting taped at Easter Seals Camp Horizon Aug. 31.

Finding Bigfoot airs on Animal Planet.

The meeting was a chance for people living in the area to share their experiences involving the large, hairy, ape-like creature with large feet, also known as Sasquatch.

From Portland, Oregon, Barackman has been doing field research on Bigfoot for 18 years.

His belief is it is only a matter of time before evidence that Bigfoot exists is found. Barackman produces Finding Bigfoot to educate and help prepare people for that day.

The experiences shared at the town hall meeting help Barackman and his co-hosts choose a location to investigate for evidence of Bigfoot.

Stoney tracker Lenny Wesley claims to have tracked a Sasquatch but has never seen one.

“I know they’re there,” he said.

Calgarian Keith Hamilton also shared his experience. He claims to have seen a Sasquatch leaving his campsite north of the Fullerton loop in the Kananaskis last year.

Until that experience he said he’d never given Bigfoot much thought.

“I’m addicted now,” he said “I want to know more.”

Hamilton said he would like to become a Bigfoot investigator and always brings supplies to record evidence of the beast when he goes camping.
