Willow planting project set to go

Bighill Springs Creek will have more willows after this weekend.

The 16th annual Branches and Banks is set for June 3-4.

About 1,200 pre-rooted willow will be planted along sections of the creek.

On June 3, students from Glenbow Elementary School will be out in full force.

Westbrook School gets new principal from Kathyrn

Westbrook School will have a new principal in the fall.

Kathyrn School’s assistant principal Christine Parker will take over at the Cochrane rural school on Aug. 15.

‘Fantastic’ preschool teacher retires after 30 years

After 30 years of caring for and educating Cochrane’s young minds, pre-school teacher Carol Mayhew is retiring.

“I just think it’s time,” Mayhew said. “Over the years I have to say my job has brought so much happiness and so much friendship into my life that I am truly blessed.

Centre enters Kraft contest

Cochrane’s Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre has been entered into the Kraft Celebration Tour for a chance to snag $25,000 in upgrades.

With stops from coast to coast, the Kraft Celebration Tour will see TSN’s flagship sports news program SPORTSCENTRE broadcast live from 10 lucky Canadian communities from August 19-28.

Celebrations planned at Seniors on the Bow

With the annual Seniors’ Tea already a sold-out event, Cochrane seniors can also look forward to activities planned at the recently opened Seniors on the Bow Centre for Seniors’ Week June 6-12.

Condy returns to Cochrane to continue recovery

A woman who fell gravely ill while travelling in Africa has been released from hospital and is slowly recuperating at her Cochrane home.

According to her father, Christine Condy remembers little of the ordeal that started in early February when she fell ill with uropsepsis, a potentially lethal variety of blood poisoning, and slipped into a coma in a hospital in Accra, Ghana. (more…)

With supporters gathered, the Cochrane Community Awards were presented at the RancheHouse May 29.

The awards are a joint effort by the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Cochrane to recognize exceptional community members.

Farmers’ market to open

Now that the sun has finally come out it’s time for locals to head to the Cochrane Ranche site every Saturday starting June 4 for the Cochrane Farmers’ Market celebrating it’s 13th season.

This year’s market will have as many as 40 vendors for opening day, said manager Valerie McCracken.

Town loses key employee to retirement

Brenda Romanchuk worked her last day at the Town of Cochrane recently, where she had been employed for 18 years.

She said the challenge and personal growth opportunities were paramount in keeping her loyal to her employer for many years.
