A good number of Cochrane Jaguars teams shredded their way through Alberta Volleyball Association provincials during the weekend of April 30.

U-13 Girls

The U-13 girls squad participated in provincial play in Edmonton.

The team finished third in their pool April 30 but lost in the third set of the consolation final May 1.

The team finished 13th in the province despite their usual 13-player roster being trimmed to nine due to prior commitments and injuries.

U-14 Girls

The Jags U-14 girls contingency, also playing in Edmonton, finished 28th in the province out of 52 teams in their age group.

U-17 Girls

The U-17 and coach Landon Thompson girls had a very successful April 30 going undefeated in their pool.

The team lost a tough match against Canada West in quarter-final play before losing to the Edmonton Heat and finishing seventh overall in the province.

U-18 Girls

Despite missing their setter for the weekend, the U-18 girls gave a strong effort in provincial play.

The team faced Espoir Alberta losing 25-16 and 25-18, which moved the team to the consolation side of the draw.

The U-18s have resumed practice and are preparing for nationals in Abbotsford, B.C., May 13-15.

For the rest of the Jaguars squads, there’s the Western Open in Saskatoon, Sask., May 6-8 and provincials for the U-15 and U-16 girls in Calgary and Edmonton May 7-8.

All U-17 and U-18 squads are headed for the Abbotsford nationals, while the U-15 and U-16 squads compete in the Western Open in Calgary during the May Long weekend.
