Map to Ghost River Crossing

A historic executive retreat and training centre near Cochrane has been sold for $4.2 million.

Ghost River Crossing was purchased by Coril Holdings Ltd., which also owns the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Calgary. The property, on nearly 59 hectares set in the foothills, was originally listed for sale at $6.5 million last spring. The retreat has a hilltop view that overlooks Ghost River, Ghost Lake and the Rockies. (more…)

Cochrane RCMP are asking the public for help in tracking down an older male who was spotted early Jan. 25.

Archer wins gold

Tracy Klettl

Cochrane’s Tracey Klettl won a gold medal at the national 3D archery competition in Lethbridge, Alta. Jan. 22-23.

Klettl was one of 193 competitors from across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Montana.

Lugers crack top ten

Bearspaw luger Tristan Walker and his doubles partner Justin Snith had their best finish of the world cup circuit so far coming in 10th place in Altenberg, Germany.

“They were awfully excited about their finishes. It puts them into a pretty elite group of sliders up there,” said Tristan’s dad Bruce. “They’re doing well and (Tristan) sure seemed happy with the results. (more…)

Cote re-signs with Stamps

He was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 16, but the Calgary Stampeders have once again snapped up Cochrane’s Rob Cote.

The six-foot-one, 220-pound Cote played 18-regular season games and the Western Final with the Stampeders last season.

Brooks goes for the big bucks

Beau Brooks got on his first steer at the age of 12, he rode his first bull at the age of 14.

Since then the cowboy, who lived in Cochrane until the age of 17, has been riding every rodeo possible including bucking his way to a second-place win at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Cup Series Jan. 15 in Edmonton.

Jaguars looking to pounce after slow season start

The Cochrane Jaguars U-17 Girls and U-18 Boys teams participated in the Alberta Volleyball Association (AVA) pre-season tournament Jan. 22 at the Volleydome in Calgary.

The U-17 Girls team beat the host team Calgary Canucks in straight sets for their third match of the tournament, but it was to be the teams only win on the day.

Redwood Meadows Emergency Services to purchase new truck

New tanker model

Redwood Meadows town council approved $280,000 for the purchase of a new pumper tanker truck for the community’s volunteer fire department.

“A properly equipped fire department is essential for public safety,” said Mayor John Welsh in a release.

The tanker will replace the current truck, which has reached the end of its service life. (more…)

Family keeping busy with five young athletes
