Christmas tree recycling back

Town of Cochrane

After adorning homes over the holidays, the time has come for Christmas trees to disappear until next year.

Both the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County have recycling programs.

Cochrane will base its recycling centre out of the Mitford Park parking lot, with drop-off available until Jan. 28.

Complaint delayed

Members of the Bearspaw First Nation who filed a complaint against Chief David Bearspaw Jr. for extending his term two years without an election referendum will have to wait until January to see anything happen in court.

Judge John Reilly

Judge John Reilly, who recently released the book Bad Medicine: A Judge’s Struggle for Justice in a First Nations Community, held a second book signing at Bentleys Books Dec. 18, autographing roughly 50 books.

The first book signing on Dec. 12 attracted a large crowd.

Wee rider has big success on show jumping circuit

Morgan Wood

At five feet tall, Cochrane’s Morgan Wood thinks nothing of climbing atop her mare Tamaya and clearing four-foot high jumps in competitions.

The 15-year-old Cochrane High School student has had a very successful season as a show jumper with Tamaya, and has the hardware to prove it.

Bali kids need hearing aids

Cochrane’s Destination Hearing is hoping residents will hear its cry for help and donate their unwanted hearing aids — even if broken.

The business is accepting donations and equipment until the third week of January when part-owner Richard Zeeman will travel to Bali to deliver them.

Cochrane’s Pattie Pilling is challenging local residents to become the CEO of their life and fit into those skinny jeans.

It was only last year when she decided to take control and joined a Biggest Loser Contest in Cochrane.

Cochranites can give themselves and Pat O’Hare a small pat on the back.

The musician played Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunches at the Blue Dog Cafe during the first three weeks of December and managed to raised $830 for charity.

Hampers successful

Dear Editor:

On Dec. 18, there were 141 Christmas hampers distributed to a total of 461 people: 255 adults, 73 teenagers, 121 children, and 12 babies in Cochrane.

The hampers were filled with non-perishable food, a turkey or meat tray, bread, gifts and toys for each person. In today’s economic climate it’s easy to turn away or pass on donating food or money, but not in Cochrane. We once again had tremendous support from the citizens of Cochrane. You proved that Cochrane clearly cares. (more…)
