In a weekend check stop Nov. 26-28, Cochrane RCMP stopped over 300 vehicles resulting in two charges of impaired driving.

According to an RCMP release, a 56-year-old woman from Cochrane and a 70-year-old man from the rural northwest were charged.

Vandals strike

Southland Transportation say vandals are reeking havoc on school bus schedules by unplugging buses overnight causing major service delays and stress for everyone from bus drivers to parents.

Pool enters new phase

County approves rezoning despite no concept plan

Almost three years after their first application, landowners John and Joanne Vandenberg in west Bearspaw obtained rezoning from Rocky View County Nov. 23 that will allow the creation of a four-acre lot out of a 15-acre parcel.

The property is located on Badger Road, just west of Lochend Road and north of Highway 1A.

Funding shortage hits Albertans needing legal aid

Two men in their 30s take slow drags off their cigarettes after appearing in Cochrane Provincial Court Nov. 4. Both charged with assault, the men, whose names are being withheld given the nature of their charges, will not be able to afford legal counsel on their own and plan to seek assistance from Legal Aid, an organization that exists to provide cost-effective legal services for Albertans in need.

Josephs to skate for Badgers

Cochrane’s Katy Josephs will be lacing her skates for the University of Wisconsin Badgers women’s hockey team for the 2011-12 season.

The Highwood Raiders Midget Triple A team forward’s signing was announced Nov. 24 by Badgers head coach Mark Johnson.

Cowboys come out on top in first tourney of season

Eight of 10 wrestlers with the Cochrane Cowboys wrestling team medalled at their first tournament, the Constrictor Classic at Tom Baines Jr. High in Calgary Nov. 27.

Dinos lose at Vanier Cup

University of Calgary Dinos offensive lineman Alex Krausnick-Groh of Cochrane said Nov. 26 that his team would have to keep up the intensity for a full 60-minute game in the Nov. 27 Vanier Cup in order to win. The team lost by two points to Queen’s University Golden Gaels last year after a disappointing second half.

Gens streak ends at 14

The Cochrane Generals 14 game win streak came to an end Nov. 26 after a 4-3 loss to the Thunder in Airdrie. In the first period, the Generals killed off three penalties and were outshot 17-14 but neither team managed to hit the back of the net.
