Village by the Bow comes alive with charitable event
So what’s a few bucks amongst friends?
Last week on this page, I reported that the good folks at Safeway had raised $50,000 for muscular dystrophy and while they did raise a lot of money for this great cause, they didn’t raise $50,000. They raised $5,000. It was a matter of an extra ‘0,’ amongst friends of course.
Sorry for the mistake, but it doesn’t take away from the great effort by the Safeway staff.
What a walk
A tip of the toque — just look outside — to the good folks that once again gave amazing support to the annual Cochrane SuperWalk raising funds for Parkinson’s research.
The local walk raised just under $24,000 and to put it into perspective remember this, Lethbridge held its annual walk also last weekend and only raised $21,000.
Candidates needed
So just what’s going on with the civic election?
Here it is but a few days before nominations close and we have no one running against incumbent mayor Truper McBride and only one outsider taking on six incumbents on council.
I can’t believe there aren’t some out there who are waiting until the last minute to file papers and that minute is fast approaching.
It’s less than a week.
Nominations will be accepted by the Cochrane returning officer from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, Sept. 20 at the Cochrane RancheHouse.
Arts festival nears
Another great weekend in this wee village by the Bow is coming up.
It’s the first Cochrane Arts Festival and it starts Saturday with a 9 a.m. pancake breakfast and just gets better from there.
The Men of Vision Pipes and Drums entertain at 11 a.m. at Centennial Plaza, but the most impressive thing is more than 70 individual artists will have their works on display along Second Avenue dowtown the entire day.
That’s the street between Phantoms and Coffee Traders, but wander the entire downtown because many retail outlets in the core will have artists’ displays.
And be sure to visit Zambuca.
He’s at Just Imajan on First Street West between Rafter’s and Blue Dog and while there you can watch owner Janet Armstrong as she creates a painting right before your eyes and see some incredible masks by Shirley Rosin and listen to the fabulous Marty Cochrane.
You can bid on Janet’s painting and 100 per cent of the proceeds go to the food bank.
You will also be able see what an incredible improvement Janet can make to black and white photos, some which I took.
See you there.
