Richelle Love

Cochrane’s Richelle Love rode her way onto the podium in one of the sport-ability racing categories at the 2010 Canadian Mountain Bike Championships in Canmore July 18.

Love, who works as a trainer with Cochrane’s Team Tri Life and is a member of the Calgary-based Terrascape Racing team, pushed her way from third to second near the end of the first lap in the sport women 12-kilometre mass start race.

The determined Cochranite then pulled away from her chasers to bring home a silver medal.

“I was very happy with my execution,” said Love, who was competing in her first nationals competition.

“I attacked on the technical downhill sections as that is my strength. I am weaker at climbing.
“I was totally spent at the end of the race so I was thrilled with my effort.”

The 32-year-old wound up with a final time of 57 minutes, 52 seconds — roughly one minute, 30 seconds back of the champion.

“The winner was in first place right out of the starting shoot,” Love explained.

“I got very close to her with two kilometres to go but dropped my chain and she secured her first-place finish.”

Love is also an avid triathlete and will   head to Whistler to compete in the off-road XTerra National Championships in early September.
