This May long weekend was one of the quietest in years for local law enforcement officials.

Incidents were “way down this year, but so were people,” said Cochrane RCMP Const. Rodney MacIntyre.

“This is the slowest its been in 10 years.”

Local teen’s stunts draw national media attention

Surfing on the roof of a speeding car, jumping off a bridge onto a moving train and scaling the sides of buildings with ease — Cochrane teenager Chris Ball has been filmed doing all this and much more.

Recently, Ball’s on-screen antics have gained national media attention; however, not everyone is impressed with the 19-year-old who is aiming for a career in the entertainment industry.

Vandals strike multiple locations

Cochrane’s Dana Boothby finished a hard day’s work in his fields just above Sunset Ridge in Cochrane May 22, parked his tractors and left for the day.

The next morning he was shocked to discover his tractors had been taken for a “drunken joyride,” causing a mass amount of damage.

Private Edge School joins Rocky View

Rocky View School Division

The private Edge School for athletics is now part of the public Rocky View Schools division.

Reversing a previous announcement that Edge would join the Grande Prairie Public School District (GPPSD), Edge will become a pilot alternative program within the public system.

Regional communities could share water under plan

Town council and regional planners met May 25 to discuss a co-operative water use agreement in the Calgary region.

Under the proposed Calgary Metropolitan Plan (CMP), communities around Calgary would essentially collectively use water, instead of individually owning and utilizing water licences.

Cochrane to show its pride

The Pride of Cochrane event will see the town promote itself through the Calgary Stampede chuckwagon races.

For three nights, July 11–13, a tarp on local driver Grant Profit’s chuckwagon will bear “Pride of Cochrane” to television viewers, along with other promotion efforts in the planning stage.

Superbiker revving up to make father proud

Bragg Creek Festival brings musical variety

Time has closed in on the highly anticipated third annual Bragg Creek Festival, which takes place at the Bragg Creek Centre located at 23 White Avenue May 28-30.

The festival kicks off Friday evening at 7 p.m. with YoUthtopia:  a showcase of seven Albertan youth singer-songwriters, all under the age of 19.

Some local bus drivers are gathering support for a Cochrane couple down on their luck.

Dawn and Glen Freeth were injured in  a car crash near Revelstoke, British Columbia, in early April as they returned from a wedding.
