Rocky View councillors look to deal with surplus county land
Rocky View councillors are taking steps to deal with some surplus land around the county.
At a March 2 council meeting, administration explained the county owns approximately 300 municipal reserve parcels.
It also owns roughly 100 fee simple, which refers to land that’s owned without limitation on ownership, and former reserve parcels.
Some of these parcels are of no use to the county, and many have become neglected over time.
As a result, the planning department has begun the process of outlining policies and procedures for the eventual sale or lease of some of the sites that are not needed.
These procedures, which include checklists, formal applications and detailed evaluations, will make it easier for administration to evaluate the county’s assets and investigate their social, economic and environmental value prior to being sold.
The procedure documents were approved unanimously by council.
