Local arts picking up steam after successful fundraiser
The Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC) held its potluck and auction fundraiser March 27. More than $3,000 was raised.
We would like to send a special thank you to all who were involved — from those who donated items for the auction to those who purchased the items; from those who volunteered time and effort to make the evening a success; to those who provided the excellent entertainment for the evening; and to anyone else who showed their support.
In speaking with ACFC President Maxine Herbert after the event, she was especially pleased with the real support shown in the donations that were received.
Maxine also mentioned that Sandy Johnson, with the Town of Cochrane, announced during the evening the Legacy Fund has accumulated enough funds that applications for arts grants are now being accepted.
For those that aren’t aware of the Legacy Fund, these are funds raised from the sale of prints, cards, etc. from the Legacy Mosaic painting that hangs in the Cochrane RancheHouse.
Also announced that evening are two upcoming ACFC events.

Attendees at the Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane potluck and silent auction donned some masks created by local artist Shirley Rosin. The fundraiser raised more than $3,000 to support arts in Cochrane. Photo submitted
ACFC will be hosting its first Arts Festival on Sept. 18, during the Alberta Arts Days weekend.
It will be held at the Cochrane RancheHouse and sounds like it will be a pretty special event. I’m hoping this will be the first of many to come.
Then on Nov. 27 and 28, ACFC will be hosting its first Christmas Arts Show & Sale.
Applications for both these events will be available on the website at artsandcuturecochrane.com.
Fees for both events will be payable online through PayPal.
Further details for these events will be coming here. Check the website for details as well.
Maxine did mention that ACFC would welcome the participation of other groups — arts groups or other groups such as youth or non-profit — in the Arts Festival.
Her hope is that groups in town would consider helping each other out with their events as a way of building more community spirit.
So, thanks again to all who made the potluck and auction a success — it is much appreciated.
