It gets no government funding. Every single member of the group is a volunteer, and they perform and carry the message of Cochrane simply because they want to.

They receive no money from the Town of Cochrane.

RCMP car rear-ended

As police investigated an accident on Jan. 23, they suddenly found themselves involved in a collision.

Police and Alberta Sheriffs were investigating a collision on Highway 1A, near Highway 40, and had their vehicles parked on the north shoulder of the westbound lane with emergency lights flashing.

On the ground in Haiti

My daughter, Tamara Palinka, arrived in Miami Jan. 24 and she flew into Port-au-Prince Jan. 25 with an organization called Medi-Share.

This chartered flight transported volunteers, medical equipment and supplies. She will be affiliated with Doctors Without Borders, and staying in their tented camp on a cot.

Bragg Creek seniors ask County for housing help

Bragg Creek seniors are pleading with Rocky View County for an area that offers long-term leases on fixed-rent housing so they may remain in their community well into their golden years.

At the Jan. 19 Public Services Committee meeting, members of the Bragg Creek Seniors Housing Society (BCSHS) explained to members that they were distressed that there were so few housing options available to seniors in the tiny hamlet.

“Over the years I’ve seen many of my senior friends have to leave,” said Sharon Bayer.

County anticipates wastewater concerns

Rocky View County administration wants council to approve the preparation of a bylaw that would allow a specified use of a wastewater treatment facility.

The site is on a portion of a 139-acre environmental reserve adjacent to Wintergreen Road.

Man dies in 1A crash

Police are continuing to investigate a two-vehicle crash that left a Cochrane man dead.

Developing Cochrane’s open spaces

The Town of Cochrane will soon be creating an open space development plan for our municipality. This document will lay out how and where natural areas will be protected or restored, or where parks and pathways will be developed in the community as we grow.

The plan will place a strong emphasis on connecting Cochrane into the broader regional park systems of the Glenbow Ranch, Bill Hill Springs, and the Trans Canada Trail.
