Fiery Wolves roar into playoffs
Make no mistake about it, the Cochrane Dynamite Wolves U-12 indoor soccer team play to win. And win they have.
Competing in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association, the Wolves sprinted through the seeding round of their schedule, winning all six games and outscoring opponents 32-12.
The strong play earned Cochrane’s young turf warriors a spot in the Tier 2 playoffs, where they plan to continue dominating the opposition.
“I think my girls play every game with all they have got,” said Corinna Neil, head coach of the Wolves and co-technical director for the Cochrane Minor Soccer Association. “They are here to win. They are here to do the best they can do.

While the Wolves have dominated the majority of their opponents, Neil said a true test of her team’s will came in their final game of the seeding round against a fellow undefeated squad, the Foothills Rovers. The Wolves went up 5-2 early on but “took a breath” and the Rovers pulled within one goal but ultimately were unable to complete the comeback.
“It was a very challenging game for the girls,” Neil said.
Now it seems the road ahead for the Wolves will only get more challenging as they battle the best Tier 2 has to offer.
Wolves defender Seela Wulff, who turns 12 this month, said the team is looking forward to the playoff round and impending provincial championships, held in Calgary March 19-21. Cochrane is granted an automatic berth in provincials.
“We all get along really well. We’re friends and work really well together,” Wulff said. “We all like the sport too so that makes it even better.”
The Wolves have been working through weekly conditioning and technical development sessions run by Cochrane Minor Soccer. Wulff, who has been playing competitive soccer for three years, said her team plans to take the rest of the season one game at a time.
The Wolves take on Blizzard Juventus in an exhibition game Jan. 17, and playoffs begin Jan. 25 against the Blizzard Heat.
