Cochrane’s Jordan Kwas and Springbank’s Joe Colborne were both recently honoured for steering their respective hockey clubs up the ranks.

Kwas, a third-year forward with the Olds Grizzlys, was named Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) player of the week Nov. 23 after notching two goals and three assists as Olds improved its winning streak to four games.

Kwas — who leads the Grizzlys in scoring this season with 25 points — and company still have a lot of work to do if they hope to make the post-season, as Olds currently sits sixth in AJHL ‘s south division.

Meanwhile, south of the border in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Colborne scored twice and assisted on both game-winning goals as his University of Denver Pioneers completed a two-game sweep of North Dakota on Nov. 20-21.

Colborne’s performance netted him a share of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association offensive player of the week award with Jerad Stewart who plays for Minnesota State University.

Colborne, a first round draft pick of the NHL’s Boston Bruins, has five goals and six assists in 13 games this season.
