Local represents at WorldSkills
While he didn’t come home with a gold medal, WorldSkills participant Daniel Reid isn’t one to dwell on what might have been.
The Information Network Cabling participant came in seventh, and while it’s not the gold medal he hoped for, Reid said he couldn’t be happier with his experience at WorldSkills.
“I did the best I could, I made some personal records, I had fun and that’s all I think matters,” he said. “After the first day I was just there for the fun.”

Reid said while he had the summer to prepare for the project, when it came to completing it in competition it wasn’t exactly what he had expected.
“It was changed so much. It was completely different from what we thought it would be but at the same time it was still the same stuff we thought it would be.”
After a summer of media attention and preparation, Reid said he plans to take a few weeks off but “then it’s back to normal life.”
Reid credited the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) for supporting him during preparation for WorldSkills, and he said the hunt is on to find the next cabling whiz to compete in WorldSkills 2011.
