Cochrane town council reviewed multiple RCMP organization models at their town council meeting Sept. 14 to see if they are getting the best bang for their buck.

“We were shown where we are, and I think we are doing quite well, but we don’t have the cadillac service,” said Mayor Truper McBride.

He said with Cochrane’s population now over 15,000 in the future the town will be required to pay for more of the RCMP service as it grows because federal funding goes down when populations go up.

He said looking at how the RCMP works in town — and how much different services cost — will also help council properly budget for RCMP costs in the upcoming budget process that starts up in the next few months.
