First place for Cochrane superbiker
The Canadian National Superbike Championship Series headed to Mosport Raceway in Ontario for rounds four and five July 16-19, and saw Cochrane resident Cody Matechuk take home two wins.
Matechuk even broke and reset a new lap record no less than five times in his 12-lap event.
Despite initial problems with his bike Matechuk still raced his way to victory.
“Due to a part failure, we dropped a motor on Friday and they worked all hours to get me back in the saddle,” said Matechuk. “They got the motor back into the bike in enough time to get our Race Tech suspension dialed in.”
The win gives Matechuk a nice cushion over second place in the Championship standings.
His stepdad Clint McBain took two fourths on his Suzuki Dealers/Acceleration Racing GSX-R1000, and was right in the contest until the end both days and leading the early laps in the Sunday contest.
“The bike felt great,” said McBain. “It was so good to be dicing out front again and I have an amazing team to thank for that. They never stopped believing in me and gave me the bike I needed to get back in the mix.”
McBain’s finish leaves him third in the overall superbike standings heading into the two final rounds of the series.
The next event is August 6–9 at Atlantic Motorsports Park, Shubenacadie, N. S.
