Chad Fike has ridden his way through another fast paced, action-packed, wagon filled Rangeland Derby to come out on top.

Fike, a Cremona native, has been outriding since 2005, and can add this years Rangeland Derby to his growing list of successes.

His fifth year at the Stampede, the outrider flew down the track alongside chuckwagon driver Chad Harden as he passed the finish and became the Rangeland Derby champion.

“It was a good year, my wagons did fairly good and I was happy with it,” Fike said.

His cut of the winnings depend on what drivers pay him, but Fike usually makes $300 per ride, and this year rode in all the races.
Fike said he won’t be spending his winnings on frivolous luxuries.

“Well it will probably go to the mortgage payment on my house, that’s where it will go.”

As for riding headlong down the track alongside the high speed wagons, Fike said “it’s a pretty good adrenaline rush.”

Fike will continue to travel the province this the rodeo season, outriding for big names like Luke Tournier, and Rae Croteau Jr.
