Cochrane Coffee Traders staff got a bit of a shock with their morning java, after a fire broke out at the roasting facility on River Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. July 28. Five vehicles and 14 Cochrane Fire and EMS staff members arrived on scene to find the building belching black smoke. After a tense few minutes where a crowd gathered and the sky steadily blackened, firefighters had the blaze under control and it was put out a short time later. The fire originated from the roaster’s exhaust system. While the exhaust system and parts of the roof will have to be replace, the building did not suffer any structural damage. The damages are estimated to be between $15,000 and $20,000. It was the first time Cochrane Fire has used it’s the $1.3 million dollar aerial truck on a structure fire. Coffee Traders owner Jeff Genung was not available for comment at press time.
