The Cochrane and Area Youth Talent Festival was once again a huge success thanks to many volunteers and the amazing talent of Cochrane and area youth.
The final presentation was April 9 at the Baptist Church and it was an amazing show.
And the envelope please for the awards.
The vocal awards: beginner, Jalayna Szepesi; junior, Kirsten Collins; intermediate, Megan Robertson; senior, Janessa Sheppard.
Vocal group: Samantha Gogol with Laurelle and Merissa Schartner; speech arts musical theatre, Elyse Bouvier; original composition, Merissa Schartner; stage presence, Alicia Bailey; award of merit, Sydney Montieth; award of distinction, Stephanie Demeo.
Instrumental awards: beginner solo, Justin Cook; junior solo, Peter Abramoff; intermediate, Sharlene Rose Van Hoeve; senior, Jeremy Caspell.

A tip of the toque to all participants, volunteers and organizers — especially the staff and members of the Bow Valley Baptist Church and the Alliance Church for staging such a great presentation of Cochrane’s talented youth.

Speaking of talented youth . . . well, not quite so young.
Also on April 9, my older son Alan, an Airdrie Realtor, was voted president-elect of the Canadian Real Estate Association while his younger brother Ian, editor of the mighty Eagle and bassist for the mighty Brenda Vaqueros, played a rock show at U of C April 8.
I don’t know where we went so wrong with the Realtor.

Stampede Wrestling is coming to town and Cochrane’s very own Devon “Kid” Nichols will wrassle in the main event against Karnage, the 6-foot-8 Portuguese Man-Of-War.
Don’t you just love the hype that goes with professional wrestling?
I can remember Stu Hart and such great wrestlers as The Stomper and of course the Hart boys. Our own Kid Nichols rates right up there with them.
It all goes April 23 at Totem arena and there’s no truth that Mayor Ken Bech and Coun. Andy Marshall will be the preliminary event.
But maybe we could set up a tag team match with those that want to save the community hall and those who don’t.

Everyone knows a head of hair is hot during the summer and Bonnie Bagnall, head honcho at the Cochrane Legion, has the answer: cut it off.
But not now.
Wait until May 27 when it’s the annual head shaving caper to raise funds for cancer research.
So start collecting pledges and get ready to have a bald summer.
I have a few suggestions who might participate in this fun event for a great cause. Surely the mayor should follow the previous mayor’s example and be trimmed.
