Generals split at home

A week after beating the Siksika Ice 18-2, the Cochrane Generals beat them again Nov. 19 but this time the score was 6-1.
“They showed up with a very different team,” said Generals’ assistant coach Dennis Zinter. “Sure, it was scrambly at times but it was a good game and they were goaltending a lot better.”
But the following night the Generals lost at the Totem Arena to South Central Express from Lethbridge, a game Zinter said the home team should have won.
“We lost 7-5 and we played well enough, but just not well enough to win,” he said, blaming the refereeing in part.
“There were a lot of minor penalties,” he said. “I’m not just saying for any one side, but it takes the flow out of our skating. We’re a good skating team and we don’t need to be losing that flow. It hurts us.”
Although the Generals were up 2-0 at the end of the first period, Zinter said they “coasted” at times.
“We should have had more discipline and gone with our game plan,” he said. “That might have helped.”
The Generals now stand 9-7-0 in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League. They play next in Red Deer against the Vipers on Nov. 27.
