Election’s over so let the ribbon cutting begin
Of all the elections I’ve ever covered, that was certainly one of them.
It wasn’t quite like dancing with your sister, maybe a cousin.
Of the same sex.
You just knew the Tories would win but you wondered if the Liberals would make some gains and both happened.
Four more years, well, for everyone but Premier Ralph who will pull the pin this term and head to greener pastures — full of BSE cattle.
Just kidding.
With 2005 being the provincial centennial expect Ralph to do a lot of ribbon cutting and putting this summer and I think he deserves those just rewards.
But now the politics really start with the hunt for a Ralph replacement.
I really don’t have much of a feel for that race at this stage but I do feel Cochrane’s MLA Janis Tarchuk should be included in cabinet.
She’s now been elected for three terms, each with relative ease, has served her constituents well, is loyal to the leader and the party and knows how the system works. She could be very effective in cabinet for both our constituency and the province.
And that’s not all. Besides all those obvious attributes that make her cabinet material — she golfs.
What more does she need to be in cabinet?

There’s no truth to the rumour that the Calgary-Montrose constituency declared a winner at 4:35 p.m. election day.

There’s been reports that former federal Liberal cabinet minister Alphonso Gagliano was a member of the mob.
I don’t believe that for a minute.
The mob isn’t dumb enough to have a Liberal as a made member of its outfit.

Campaigning is heating up for a replacement of former PLO leader Yasser Arafat. Former Cochrane mayor Judy Stewart has not yet indicated if she’ll run.

Speaking of golf, I mentioned the great game a few paras ago.
Mark Aug. 11, 2005, on your calendar ƒor the second annual Cochrane Humane Society’s fundraiser at the Links of GlenEagles.
The weather will be perfect and already there are some great prizes. For example, Alex Baum and the gang at Cochrane Dodge are giving away a truck.
Not for the usual hole-in-one that few ever win, but guaranteed a truck will be given away for a shot closest to the hole. Not a new truck but a roadworthy vehicle that you could drive home after you make the shot.
There’s going to be some incredible auction items as well and the one and only potlicker from Okotoks, Bearcat Murray, has agreed to be the auctioneer.

Once again Scott Winter and the gang at Winter Photographics are taking photos with Santa as a fundraiser for the Cochrane Preg-nancy Care Centre.
This is the eighth year they’ve donated their time and efforts to this cause and the dates and times are 4-6 p.m. Nov. 25; 3-5:30 p.m. Nov. 26; 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 27. Also, 4-6 p.m. Dec. 2; 3-5:30 p.m. Dec. 3; 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
So take your wee bundle of joy and frighten him or her half to death on Santa’s knee for a good cause.
