Chiniki inauguration contested by band members

The newly elected chief and council for the Chiniki band in Morley was officially inaugurated on Jan. 20 as questions over the December election linger.

Chief Bruce Labelle, who was re-elected for his third term, was welcomed into office by an auditorium filled with more than 150 people.

Rancher throws hat into ring for Wildrose Party

Tom Copithorne, co-owner/operator of Copithorne & Ward, a livestock services company, is one of two candidates running for the Wildrose Party nomination for Banff-Cochrane.

A Springbank High School graduate, Copithorne has worked in the cattle business for 30 years and feels that the skills he has acquired in the industry will lead to success in the political arena.

Plans for twinning of Highway 1A into town on schedule

Planning for the expansion and development of Highway 1A, Centre Avenue and the former Domtar site are progressing as planned.

Rick Deans, senior manager of infrastructure, along with senior manager for sustainable planning services, Kathy Dietrich, were on hand during the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce’s Lunch and Learn on Jan. 18 to discuss the three major projects.

Cochrane veteran honoured

Gerald Morrison

Gerald Morrison, a Cochrane veteran of the Canadian Forces, received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation during a ceremony in Calgary on Jan. 18.

The acclamation, which was awarded to 13 people from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, is bestowed upon those who have provided admirable service to the veteran community, something Morrison has been extremely active in after serving his country for 36 years.
